  • For foreign parents in Japan, raising their “mixed” race children to be bicultural can be a struggle, largely because bicultural identity is not widely recognized or valued. When the children are neurodiverse or have disabilities, the challenges multiply – as they face social and structural exclusion. The author reflects on her own experiences raising two such children at “home” in Japan, and during a year at “home” in the UK.

  • Cheryl Okubo氏には、私たちの持つ個人的価値観と真実を理解し、その価値を他者と話し合う手段として、神話を用いる方法について記事にして頂きました。彼女は記事の中で、日本で古くから語られる「桃源郷」の物語を取り上げています。これは、秘密のユートピアを発見し、最終的にそのユートピアは自分自身の内なる隠れ家であったことに気がついた漁師の物話です。物語について語った後、彼女にはアートセラピストとして、インタビューにもご回答頂いています。

  • ​在日外国人保護者にとって、二つの文化背景をもつ子どもを、両方の文化で育てることは容易ではない。日本社会では「二文化併存」はまだ一般的に尊重されておらず、価値あるものとみなされていないからである。 特に、子どもに障害があったり、神経多様であったりした場合、日本社会では、定型から外れる人は社会的にも構造的にも排除されてしまうため、保護者の苦労は倍増する。 ここでは、型にはまらない子どもの母である筆者が日本とイギリスという２つの故郷での子育て体験を振り返る。
