ASTA
A Nagoya-based NPO which promotes awareness and tolerance through presentations and workshops at schools and public and private organizations. 

Friends and Family of LGBT

This peer-support group originated in Kobe, and has regular meetings in Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe and Fukuoka. The group is similar to PFLAG in the United States, and the two organizations have close ties. Meetings are friendly and supportive, and individuals and families from all backgrounds are welcome to attend. Discussion is in Japanese so, if needed, it may be good to ask a Japanese speaking person to accompany you for language support, or contact the organizers to ask if any members might be able to help you. Please email the organizers if you are planning to attend or for more information.

English Counselling Kansai
  • A qualified British counsellor with extensive experience supporting the LGBTQ+ community in Japan.
  • Counselling is face-to-face or through Skype.

TELL
  • TELL (formerly Tokyo English Lifeline) has counselors with backgrounds working with the LGBTQ community.
  • ​Information about LGBTQ topics can be found here.
  • TELL's Lifeline can be reached at 03-774-0992, 7 days a week, 9:00 am to 11:00 pm.
  • You can reach TELL'S online chat from 10:30 pm on Saturday to 9:30 am on Sunday.​

Queer and Women's Resource Center (Osaka)
  • Information in English about medical and social welfare related issues for LGBT individuals in Japan. (PDF).

Hatano Clinic (Internal medicine and psychosomatic medicine practice in Sakae, Nagoya)
  • Dr. Hatano is a Japanese/English bilingual GP with a very warm and caring manner.
  • Extensive experience supporting the LGBTQ+ and multicultural community.
  • Closed 1st, 3rd and 4th Saturday of the month

Okayama University Hospital's Gender Clinic
  • The Gender Clinic was the second facility in Japan to provide gender affirming surgery (SRS) in Japan.
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
  • Provides social and other types of support.

Nagumo Clinic GID Center (Nagoya, Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka)
  • Gender affirming surgery (SRS).
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
  • The clinic in Nagoya is the most well known.
  • Website only in Japanese.

​TransFamily LGBT Email Discussion Groups
Based in the U.S., but members are from around the world. There are moderated email-based discussion groups for transitioning youth and adults, family and friends. Members are very supportive and knowledgable.

PFLAG
Resources and information about LGBTQ topics, including:
